On January 17, Green University hosted an event to officially launch two international projects funded by a $6.5 million GEF grant, set to run through 2030. The projects are being implemented in collaboration between the Ministry of Ecology and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
The event brought together Deputy Minister of Ecology Iskandar Qutbiddinov, UNDP Resident Representative Akiko Fujii, representatives from international organizations, and media members. Two key initiatives were presented during the event: the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan and the Integrated Management for the Conservation and Restoration of High-Value Landscapes.
Key Objectives:
• Restore 53,000 hectares of forests and pastures.
• Enhance management systems for 200,000 hectares of state forest fund lands.
• Strengthen governance for 142,000 hectares of protected natural areas.
• Improve living conditions for 30,000 residents through eco-tourism, sustainable pasture management, and livelihood enhancements.
These projects are designed to promote ecological sustainability and advance Uzbekistan’s national biodiversity conservation strategy, aligning with international best practices.
